David J. Swearingen

David is the Founder, CEO, and a thought leader for Gossamer INV. David began his career in wealth advisory in 1990 with Merrill Lynch and progressively elevated to higher net worth boutique wealth management and investment banking firms of Donaldson Lufkin a & Jenrette (“DLJ”) and Bear Stearns before selling his practice to United Capital, who eventually sold to Goldman Sachs in 2019 for $750 million. After years in wealth advisory with top advisory firms, David never felt completely comfortable with the level of generic and non-proactive advice being offered by advisory firms whom we have entrusted with our hard-earned money. Fortunately, in late 1998, David met the President and CIO of Yale University’s Endowment portfolio at a private equity conference in NYC where he realized their methodology and general thinking about investment management was wildly different than the guidance offered to individual investors. From here he set out to create an investment strategy that attempted to mimic how large pools of money such as Yale, Stanford, Harvard, hedge funds and sovereign wealth funds manage their money - and has continued to optimize the strategy to bring a higher level of options to individual investors.
